Gurnard Fishing Trips

About Our Gurnard Fishing Trips From Poole, Dorset

Gurnard are unusual-looking, colourful fish that provide enjoyable sport on light tackle. They have broad heads, large pectoral fins and small feelers beneath their bodies, which they use to search for food across the seabed.

We catch several varieties of Gurnard from Poole, including Red, Grey and Tub Gurnard. Tub Gurnard are particularly impressive, with large wing-like fins that can display striking blue and green markings.

Gurnard are mainly caught during the warmer summer months, when they move into the waters of Poole Bay and along the Dorset coastline. They are usually found over sand, gravel and mixed ground, where they feed on small fish, prawns, crabs and other creatures living close to the seabed.

Silver Gannet will normally drift across productive ground, allowing anglers to cover a larger area and locate feeding fish. Gurnard are often caught while we are also fishing for species such as Plaice, Bream, Mackerel, Rays and Bass.

The most effective baits include strips of Mackerel, Squid, Ragworm and Sandeel. Bright beads, spoons and other attractors can also help, as Gurnard are inquisitive fish and are often drawn towards movement and colour.
