Turbot Fishing

Turbot & Brill are magnificent species of flatfish and delicious to eat. We are fortunate to be able to catch them off the Shambles near Portland Bill (Weymouth). They also caught off Poole and mid-channel, but you cannot target them like you can at the Shambles.

Pollock Fishing

Pollock can be caught both inshore and offshore, but typically the big ones are caught offshore drifting wrecks mid-channel.

Ling Fishing

Ling are very rare to catch off Poole, and you have to go mid-channel wreck fishing to catch one. They venture out of the wrecks at slack tides and the ideal bait is a head of mackerel, although they also take a shad when Cod or Pollock fishing.

Tope Fishing

Tope are great sporting fish and can often be found just a few miles just offshore. They are a protected species and all Tope are returned safely. They can grow up to 6 feet and up to 100 lbs, but the ones we catch tend to be smaller up to 30 lbs.

Dogfish Fishing

Dogfish which can grow up to 4 – 5 lbs are called Less Spotted Dogfish, but they are typically 1 – 2lbs in weight. Bull Huss (greater spotted dogfish) can grow up to 20 lbs and are usually a bi-catch when targeting other species like Congers.

Whiting Fishing

Smaller whiting are shoal fish and highly competitive. They get one chance to eat a bait and if they decline another fish will. For this reason, they take lugworm, ragworm, shellfish, prawn, mussel and most other baits you can think of. But generally, all these baits will target the smaller fish

Brill Fishing

Brill are magnificent species of flatfish and delicious to eat. They are more of a delicate fish to eat and don’t grow as large as Turbot. We are very fortunate to be able to catch them off the Shambles near Portland Bill (Weymouth). They also caught off Poole and mid-channel, but you cannot target them like you can at the Shambles.

Bass Fishing

Sea Bass grow upto 4 ft in length and can weigh 20 lbs. The minimum size to keep is 42 cms in length. There is a Catch & Release policy in place for the 3 months of December, January and February. Anglers are limited to 2 fish per day in all other months.

Bream Fishing

Black Seabream (Spondyliosoma Cantharus) arrive in Dorset in early April and leave end of September. On Silver Gannet we return all female bream as they are full of eggs, and have travelled great distances to spawn off our shores. We return anything smaller than 25 cms or Female.

Shark Fishing

West Cornwall is home to prolific shark fishing grounds - the finest in the country. During these trips we steam between 8 and 15 miles to the grounds and stop the engine, leaving the boat to drift with the tide and wind pushing us across the bay.

Cod Fishing

The Winter Cod tend to be lot bigger and are caught from November – January. They are caught at anchor using bait such as Squid and Cuttlefish. Summer Cod can sometimes be caught inshore, but the bigger fish are offshore mid-channel, where we drift wrecks and rough ground using artificial lures . Orange, Blue and White lures do well.

Plaice Fishing

Plaice arrive at our shores in early Spring and stay with us till late Autumn. They are caught in numbers in Poole Bay and Poole Harbour. Plaice are aggressive fish and will nibble away at your bait munching the ragworm before they finally take the bait. We use light spinning rods and fixed spool reels spooled with braid.

Conger Fishing

Conger Eels are shy biters. So you need to judge when to lift into the fish or strike it. You need to be very patient and let the conger have time to take the bait. Mackerel is the bait most used to catch Congers, A mackerel head or flappers is great for congers, but pouting, squid and cuttlefish also are good baits. Small immature congers of few pounds in weight are called Strap Congers. They hide in crevices and in the wrecks.

Ray Fishing

The Undulate Ray ICUN Status is Endangered and are always returned unharmed if one is caught on SIlver Gannet. They can grow upto 20 lbs. The Thornback Ray grows upto 35lbs and has a Near Threatened status. The Small Eyed Ray grows upto 20 lbs and its status is also Near Threatened.

Wrasse Fishing

They love reefs and rough ground and you will catch then off Poole Patch , Poole rocks and all along the Dorset coastline. They love ragworm and squid. The Ballan Wrasse grows up to 3 feet long and upto 10 lbs in weight. It is the biggest and most common wrasse in UK waters.

Gurnard Fishing
